Similar to testosterone, fluoxymesterone is a synthetic androgen, or male hormone. Fluoxymesterone interacts with the areas of the cell involved in protein synthesis via binding to androgen receptors, which is how it operates. Fluoxymesterone's antitumor effects seem to be related to a decrease in prolactin receptors, oestrogen receptors, or both, or to their competitive inhibition.
